Michelle King, Chief Operating Officer
Michelle King comes to Yoga Shelter with over 30 years of experience in the health, fitness and yoga industry. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge both as a manager, business owner and  health professional as well experience in the studios as a group fitness instructor,  yoga teacher and as a master instructor trainer. Michelle began her journey in the fitness world on the campus of Central Michigan University in 1984 and has been in the industry ever since. She has a bachelors degree in Applied Arts majoring in Health Fitness Programming and Promotion with a minor in Foods and Nutrition. She did her internship with S.C Johnson and Sons in their corporate wellness division. Upon graduation in 1985, she began at Fitness USA as a Group Fitness Instructor/ Sales associate, and quickly rose to the top of the leader board as the number 2 sales representative in the company. From there she went to the Beverly Hills Racquet and Health Club as the Assistant Fitness Director and Group Fitness Instructor. Switching gears in 1986 she was hired at the Washtenaw County Public Health Department as a Health Educator and was there for 13 years – after being promoted 3 times, she finished her career in the public health field as Chronic Disease Prevention Director with responsibility of 4 federally funded Health and Wellness programs. Michelle taught group fitness and yoga all throughout those 13 years at several studio and club locations. Michelle began working at Life Time Fitness in 1999 and made a career there for over 15 years as a group fitness instructor, yoga teacher, assistant department head, department head and faculty of the Life Time Academy School and as a Master Instructor Trainer for the Great Lakes Region. In addition to working at Life Time Fitness, in 2005 Michelle started her own business and opened Fit Diva, Inc., a Brazilian fitness and active wear company and successfully grew this business for 5 years. Michelle’s passion is leadership, coaching and developing new talent, and managing “her people” and of course teaching group fitness and yoga. Michelle holds current certifications from ACE, AFAA, Yoga Alliance RYT200, Yogafit Level I, Star Trac Cycling, Fit Tour Kickboxing and  Beach Body as an Insanity Instructor.   Michelle is excited to be in a leadership role at Yoga Shelter as the business goes through a transformation and becomes the world class Yoga Company of the Midwest.
