Frequently Asked Questions About Yoga Shelter Teacher Training

Are you interested in pursuing training to become a certified yoga teacher? Becoming a yoga instructor can be incredibly rewarding, but requires dedication and the right facility to learn in. At Yoga Shelter, we are pleased to provide an uplifting environment for our Michigan yoga teacher training program.

Why do you need an RYT 200 certification?
Yoga is an ancient practice that has become increasingly more popular around the world in the last decade and is being added to schedules at facilities at a constantly increasing rate. More and more companies are requiring their teachers to become certified through Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher, with at least 200 hours of training (RYT200) before hiring them. Yoga studios and yoga teacher training programs in the U.S. are overseen by Yoga Alliance; which lists all teachers and their certifications. They also award studios and other facilities the honor of being an accredited place to take yoga teacher training and become certified. Yoga Shelter is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School 200-Hour (RYS200) and all students who meet the requirements of our training program will be recognized through the Yoga Alliance as a certified yoga teacher across the U.S!

Why Yoga Shelter?
Not only will you receive a rewarding yoga teacher training experience at our  training facility located in Southfield, MI (15 min from downtown Detroit), but you will also receive a free membership to all five of our Metro Detroit locations (West Bloomfield, Royal Oak, Southfield, Birmingham and Grosse Pointe) throughout the length of your training with us! At Yoga Shelter you will receive training in multiple yoga formats including ashtanga, vinyasa, slow flow and yin. Our YTT will also cover anatomy and physiology, philosophy, class theming and creating playlists for class among other necessary tools to teach an effective and connected practice. Each YTT includes a retreat for the opportunity to get away from our daily routines and really dive into our training.  Providing time to focus on what it takes to become a GREAT yoga teacher and/or deepen your practice on and off the mat. Yoga Shelter provides a total experience that will allow you to connect with your own practice and help discover your voice and the confident to teach yoga.

What is different about your teacher training program?
Yoga Shelter Teacher Training focus is on pedagogy, the method and practice of teaching. From Day 1, trainees begin learning how to teach in small groups, utilizing feedback from each other and their trainers. Our program is certified and accredited by the industry standard Yoga Alliance, a reputable non-profit organization. Students who go through our program will be recognized throughout the U.S. as a certified teacher.

What Can I Expect After Training?
Before you have finished your certification, you will meet with Yoga Shelter’s Chief Yoga Officer. She can sit down with you to discuss your goals and how she will be able to help after you have completed your training. If you are hoping to become a yoga teacher at Yoga Shelter, we can provide you with a mentor who can assist you.  Though, this is not a guarantee, it is an opportunity to continue your education and integrate yourself into our community.

What is the Cost of Your Training Program?
Our Michigan yoga teacher training programs are priced to be affordable. We offer a number of discounts for students who are already Yoga Shelter Members, those who pay in full, or those who register early. However, it is important that you think of your course costs as an investment in your future.
